During the past, when I heard of the word arch, I was usually thinking of brick architecture during the time of the Ancient Romans, as seen on some movies that depicts the history and culture of one's civilization. In simple words arch can be define as a man-made/natural-made freestanding structure, commonly shaped like an inverted U.
In the Philippines, we could compare the look of the arch like the one used in the Santacruzan festival or Flores de Mayo, welcome signage when you entered or leaved a barangay, city or municipality. Arch are also used on some sports like running and biking, and they generally served as the start and finish area of the race.
Here's one amazing photo of an arch, which was made of dozen of bicycles. This one is located in Toronto, Canada.
